First Nations Public Library Week

FNPLW OCtober 3rd – October 7th, 2022

Bekaa, Bzindaachagan | Wait and Listen

Since 2000, First Nation public libraries have used one week of the year to raise awareness of their resources, services, programs and activities. First Nations Public Library Week is celebrated the first week of October to coincide with Canadian Library Month.

First Nations Public Library Week is not only an opportunity to promote public library services but also to celebrate cultural uniqueness through creative library programming.

Bekaa, Bzindaachagan | Wait and Listen
Anishinabemowin, the original language of the Ojibwe people, is an active language that integrates concepts of the natural world and spirituality. Bekaa is a command that is told to people who are being impatient or brash. The act of waiting and listening to what someone has to say is a form of respect and offers listeners the opportunity to learn new perspectives. Bekaa, Bzindaachagan | Wait and Listen is a reminder for us to enrich our lives by listening to others imparting knowledge, perspectives, and history.

October is Canadian Library Month!

All month long, libraries and library partners across Canada are raising awareness of the valuable role libraries play in Canadians’ lives.

More than just a place to find books, libraries promote cultural awareness, engage in the community, provide educational programs, support freedom of expression and so much more.

This year’s theme is :  “One card, one million possibilities.”

Ontario Parks Passes

Want to enjoy the great outdoors? Borrow one of our provincial parks passes from the Beyond Books Collection! These passes provide complimentary day-use access for one vehicle and its occupants at more than 100 provincial parks.

Passes are not reservable for advanced dates, and as such must be picked up within 24 hours of reservation. The lending period is for 10 days, and the Library currently has 3 passes to lend.

The Ontario Parks library permit lending program is part of Healthy Parks Healthy People (HPHP), which aims to reduce barriers and make it easier for people to spend time in nature.
