Becoming a Board Member

To be on a public library board in Ontario and in accordance with the Public Libraries Act, R.S.O. 1990 Section 10 Board Member and Section 13 Disqualification of Board Members you need to be:

  • A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • Residents of the Town of Renfrew
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Not be employed by the Renfrew Public Library or the Town of Renfrew
  • Not convicted of an indictable offence

The average board member is committed to 4 – 6 hours per month to attend meetings and events.

Openings on the Renfrew Public Library board will be advertised in the Renfrew Mercury, on the library’s website and the Town’s website, as well as notices posted in-house.

RENFREW RESIDENTS: Applications are submitted to the Town of Renfrew, as the municipality is responsible for interviewing candidates and appointing members.

HORTON RESIDENTS: This year, Horton Township will also have a representative on the Library Board. If you are interested in applying, please contact Hope Dillabough, CAO/Clerk for Horton Township.
